Individuals who struggle with mental health understand how difficult the journey to recovery is.  Unfortunately, mental health stigma is alive and well which makes their journey even more difficult.  Stigma can lead to discrimination, a lack of treatment, and the worsening of mental health symptoms.  If you have mental health issues, here are a few tips to help deal with stigma….

  1. Get treatment for your mental health
  2. Educate yourself about your mental health
  3. Don’t partake in self-stigma – be kind to yourself
  4. Be open and honest about your struggles to people you trust
  5. Remember that your mental health does not define who you are
  6. Think of educating others about mental health
