Participating in psychotherapy can be extremely helpful with alleviating your symptoms of mental health. However, at times, it is advantageous to use psychotropic medications to also help alleviate your mental health symptoms. Every person is different and the right treatment plan for your mental health must be based on your needs and your medical history under the care of your physician and mental health professional.

However, taking prescription psychotropic medication is not a decision that should be taken lightly. Here are some helpful tips should you decide to take medication for your mental health:

1. Understand what the prescribed medication is supposed to do
2. Know the side effects of the medication and keep a record of the side effects that you are feeling
3. Talk to your physician about your medications at every appointment
4. Take only the medication that is prescribed to you and do not give your medication to somebody else to take
5. Do not stop the medication without talking to you physician
6. If you feel that the medication is not working or if it feels that it is making things worse, tell your physician. You might need a dose adjustment or your physician may prescribe something else that might work better.

If you need some help with your mental health treatment plan or just need a supportive ear, please book an appointment for support. I am accepting new clients – please feel free to contact me to inquire about services.
